iDEA partnered with the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) to execute a hackathon to solve the problem of access to ICT for Rural areas.

The hackathon had a nationwide reach with participants from Bauchi, Ondo, Osun & Enugu. There were 155 applications, 82 hackers, 15 teams, 5 coaches and 4 judges

2. Farm Fresh – An USSD based e-commerce application for agriculture
1. Datamart – A marketplace to buy and sell data with analytics (1st place)

The 5th annual DEMO Africa was a successful event. 30 Start-ups from all over Africa pitched in front of the tech eco-system’s principal stakeholders. 5 teams were selected to go to Silicon Valley – SimbaPay, Zuvaa, CarPartsNigeria, Bamba POS and

iDEA was a key partner that helped execute DEMO, as part of the LOC (Local Organizing Committee). This year’s edition of DEMO was characterized by an increased number of local and foreign investors, signifying the potential and the opportunities in the African market. iDEA Startup – Talking bookz had a good pitch at DEMO Africa. Talking Bookz is a platform to buy and sell African audiobooks. Talking bookz currently have over 3000 international titles across different categories including Self-help and Biographies. The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) ICT expo is the 3rd largest in the world, attracting over 145, 000 trade visitors last year from over 115 countries with Nigeria as an Official Country Partner.

iDEA Startups Hutbay, Verge and Medrep will be going to GITEX in Dubai to exhibit their businesses globally.

MEST, a seed fund and incubator for African entrepreneurs has announced their African Tech Summit for 2015.

The summit aims at bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, multinationals, and startups shaping the African technological ecosystem. The event is on November 3rd – 4th at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra Ghana.
